Welcome to the Charities Sector Procurement Group

 

The Charity Sector Procurement Group (CSPG) is a Specialist Knowledge Group, affiliated to CIPS as part of the CIPS Knowledge Group Networks, with the aim of promoting Procurement and Supply Chain Management within the Charity/Not for Profit sector.

The Charities Sector Procurement Group (CSPG) promotes the importance and relevance of procurement in the charities and not-for-profit sector.

Its objectives are to raise professional standards and promote the development of best practice in order to help charities make their funding go further.

Members benefit from the exchange of experience, opinion and advice and the promotion of staff development and training.

The CSPG represents the interests of the charity/not-for-profit sector in CIPS.

 

The group's objectives are:

  •  to raise the profile of purchasing and supply
  •  to exchange experience, opinion and advice between members
  •  to promote staff development and training
  •  to represent the interests of the charity/not for profit sector with CIPS

 

Membership

Membership is open to all organisations directly involved in the charity sector and is available to full-time employees with responsibility for procurement, or the procurement function in their organisation.

Events

Charities Group Meetings

 

The most senior procurement manager or executive of each organisation or their nominee normally attends forum meetings. Third party commercial agencies or organisations are occasionally invited to provide knowledge, insight or impartial advice on particular topics of interest to the group and the sector.

The Group meets four times a year (March, June, September and December) usually kindly hosted at the site of one of the members. Sub groups meet at other times to discuss specific matters of common interest or to undertake actions that arise from the group in terms of knowledge creation or sharing.

Support for Charities

  • Small Charities Coalition - A networking, mentoring and support organisation for small charities.
  • Law Works (England & Wales) - links relating to structure and charity law, including: Charitable Entities comparison table; Corporate Structure for Charities; report on Charitable Incorporated Organisations; Trading Arms; etc.
  • Institute of Fundraising - Aimed at small charities based in England.
  • Fundraising Regulator - the Fundraising Regulator has now replaced the Fundraising Standard Board (FRSB). They lead on issuing guidelines and reviewing regulation across the UK. It may be worth registering with them to keep up to date on developments.

  • Data Protection Rules for Charities Mailing List Opt-Out - Guidelines introduced in 2016 for charities means that all communications with members and supporters must have an opt-out. We would suggest that bat groups include the following in any newsletters or communications that you have with your members and supporters, or anyone who has subscribed to a mailing list you maintain: “If you wish to alter your contact preferences, including to opt-out of receiving future communications from us, please contact us by emailing us at ”
  • New data protection legislation - is coming from the European Union so do read through the information available on their website.
